All of us, citizens of the post soviet world, especially of its periphery areas, observe during the last 10 years changes in the environment of the city, the increase of the tension of its informational field and its dominating, advertising component, great expansion of mass media, that form new methods and ways of effective influence on the people.
Although it is comparatively young the outdoor commercial advertising has had great predecessors – posters of the propagandic ideological character. Many people remember endless slogans and photos of canonistical images on the streets, impossible without appropriate attributes of the ruling system. Formation of the new and rather aggressive environment was followed by the change of the static component, that emphasized the stability and firmness of the ideological factor, to the dynamic component, that performs the adaptive-directive function and allows to speak about the independent existence of the object.
“Any object – wrote Kandinsky – no matter if it was created by “nature” or with the help of a man – is a creature with its own life and the following influence”. The basis of the given project is the study of the own life circle of the poster, beginning from the stage of the performing of its tasks, that are required by the firmly determined advertising strategy and undergoing a number of consequent mutations, that form a kind of spontaneous collage, natural play of words, senses, meanings, where images appeals and wishes interchange, interact and destroy each other. We can observe the end of this change until the appearance of non-identified coloured spots, like the signs of a forgotten language or the unknown code.
Reaching the critical limit over which the visual object acquires self-insurance, the kind of informational collapse takes place, the vague and breaking echo dies down and the process returnes to its physical basis, the clear sheet, the empty space.
The eternal conflict between the plan and the volume transfers to the field of the visual semantics, forming multiple sensible constructions, which tell you about everything and about nothing, refuse the spectators in using the standardized system of the mechanism of desire, becoming, on the one hand, the place of utilized ideal images, but on the other hand, acquires the right to the independent life in the info-environment of the city.
